Why We Built MauzoPlus for East Africa

A System Built for Our Reality

When we started looking at the Point of Sale software being used by medium-sized retailers in East Africa, we noticed a glaring trend: most systems were built for Western markets and hastily adapted for local use.

They assumed uninterrupted high-speed internet. They assumed 90% of transactions were done via credit card. They assumed predictable, grid-reliant hardware.

That is not the reality of retail here.

Here, internet connections drop. Power goes out. 80% of digital payments happen via M-Pesa, and complex cash management (including micro-credit to regular customers) is standard practice.

We built MauzoPlus because we believe local businesses deserve enterprise-grade software that actually understands the environment it operates in.

Our Core Pillars

  • Offline-First Resilience: If the internet goes down, your business shouldn't. MauzoPlus processes sales locally and silently syncs to the cloud the moment the connection is restored.
  • Native Mobile Money: M-Pesa isn't an afterthought or a third-party plugin. It is built into the very core of our checkout flow, treating mobile money with the same native support as cash.
  • Data Light: We optimized our entire platform to load fast and consume minimal data, saving you money on cellular connections.
  • Hardware Agnostic: You don't need to buy expensive, proprietary touch-screens. MauzoPlus runs beautifully on any modern web browser, tablet, or smartphone you already own.
  • This is just the beginning of our journey. Thank you to our early adopters for believing in this vision.
